The Field Spaniel is the ideal companion for nature lovers who want a dog that can take part in adventures and at the same time be a social and active part of the family. This breed has proven to be capable as both a hunting dog and a tracking dog, and some individuals have even participated in hunting trials and practical hunting.The field spaniel has an interesting history as one of several spaniel varieties with the same origin. Traditionally, it has been used as an offensive bird dog in the British Isles, and over the years it has evolved to retrieve birds and other small game for hunting purposes.In the late 1800s and early 1900s, the field spaniel and the cocker spaniel were considered the same breed, but they were differentiated by size.

Characteristics/Mentality:

The Field Spaniel is known for being friendly, steady, dignified and quite calm. It is a little more reserved than other spaniels, but without being aggressive or difficult to handle. It is cooperative and social, and thrives in company and activity.In general, it is also social with other dogs. Some individuals can be a little shy and reserved, and hesitate to contact strangers. Sensitivity to sound and fear of gunshots are known, but not widespread. Aggression is very rare among field spaniels.

Size and Appearance:

The field spaniel is a tall and noble spaniel that lies between the cocker spaniel and the English springer spaniel in terms of size. It has a height of approx. 43-48 cm and weighs around 18-24 kg. The breed is characterized by a noble head with a thoughtful and slightly mournful expression.It has a well-developed bone stock, a tight and muscular body, and healthy and free movements. The fur is silky smooth on the body, and moderate hanging on the ears, legs and belly is desirable.The colors can be solid black or liver brown, or moldy (roan), or a combination of these with red-brown tan patterns. Pure black/white or brown/white drawings are not desired.

Fur care:

Field spaniels require weekly grooming, which is common among other spaniels. The fur should also be trimmed regularly to keep it in good condition.
