Overall impression and head

The Landseer is an impressive dog that gives the impression of being large, powerful and harmoniously built. The dog has a clean-cut head with short, fine fur, and it has a noble expression. The skull is broad and massive, and it has a well-developed occiput. The stop is marked, but not too pronounced. The nose is black, and the muzzle is the same length as the muzzle depth measured in front of the stop. The lips are dry, black and as tight as possible, with the upper lip barely covering the lower lip. Jaws and teeth are scissor bite. The cheeks are moderately developed and gradually merge into the muzzle.

Eyes and ears

Landseer has medium-sized, almond-shaped eyes that are medium deep. The eyes are brown to dark brown, and light brown eyes can also be tolerated. The friendly expression is a distinguishing characteristic. The ears are medium-sized, triangular with slightly rounded tips. They are set high and are worn tight and flat against the head. When pulled forward, they should reach the inner corner of the eye. The ears are covered with fine short fur, and fringes only occur on the rear part of the ear attachment.

Body and movements

Landseer has a wide and muscular neck that is harmoniously set against the shoulders. The neck is not completely round, but rather egg-shaped in cross-section. The length from the nape of the neck to the withers is approx. 3/4-4/5 of the total length of the head. The forelimbs are well developed with strong muscles and set straight from the front. The shoulders are well angulated, and the upper arm has a strong bone stock and is very muscular. The elbow rests well against the deepest point of the chest and points straight back. The forearm is straight, and the paws are large, well-shaped cat’s paws with the toes connected by thick webbing almost to the tips of the toes. Landseer has ground-winning and elastic movements with a long stride that covers a lot of ground.

Fur

Landseer has a coat that is long, straight, dense and soft to the touch. The coat has a good undercoat, but it is not as dense as that of the Newfoundland dog. Slightly wavy fur on the back, sides and hind legs is accepted. The fur falls back into place by itself when it is stroked against the hairs. The main color is pure white with clearly marked black areas on the hindquarters and croup. The neck, forechest, belly, legs and tail must be white. The head is black, and a white muzzle and a white, symmetrical and not too wide flash that runs through to the white throat is desired. Small black spots in the white are not desirable, but can be accepted.

Size

Landseer has a withers height of 72-80 cm for male dogs and 67-72 cm for bitches. Small deviations up or down are tolerated.
Health and Disqualifying Faults: It is important to note that dogs that show signs of aggression and/or have physical defects that affect the dog’s health will be disqualified.
