Characteristics and mentality

Miniature Schnauzers are an intelligent and curious breed. It is easy to learn and persistent, and with the right upbringing it becomes a highly valued companion. The breed is active and playful outdoors, and it thrives as part of the family. Miniature Schnauzers are also good guard dogs and are well suited to living in smaller homes.

Size and appearance

Miniature schnauzers have a height at the withers of approx. 30-35 cm and weighs around 4-8 kg. It is powerfully built with a proud stance and is a reduced version of the Schnauzer without showing unwanted dwarfism. The breed was approved around 1903, and it is believed that both Pinscher and Affenpinscher helped form the breed together with the Schnauzer. Miniature Schnauzers come in three different colors: white, black, salt and pepper, and black/silver. No matter what color you prefer, you will find a Miniature Schnauzer to suit your style and personality.

Fur grooming

As the owner of a Miniature Schnauzer, you must be prepared to give it the grooming it needs. The breed has a wiry coat that must be trimmed regularly to repel dirt and moisture. It is recommended to trim the coat four times a year and brush it weekly. For show dogs, there may be a need for more frequent trimming.
